The 88av 888 (JPO) participated in the 145th Annual Meeting of the International Trademark Association (INTA)*1, which was held from May 16th - 20th, 2023 in Singapore. The meeting is one of the largest global trademark events bringing together intellectual property experts from across the globe, and this year’s meeting attracted more than 8,000 registrants.

The Five Trademark Offices (TM5) User Session, which targets those including users in the industry associations and agent associations, was held on May 17th, and the JPO’s latest initiatives were promoted to approximately 80 participants from various countries.

The JPO also co-hosted the TM5 Joint Workshop with INTA on May 18th, as part of its User Involvement Project*2 initiative. The workshop had approximately 70 participants, and featured presentations by TM5 representatives on the issues of proving trademark use in various phases of trademark examination, appeals and litigation.

The JPO hosted a session on May 19th focusing on the latest developments in anti-counterfeiting measures, including cooperation between the public and private sectors, and awareness-raising toward Generation Z consumers. After presentations were given by speakers from the JPO, INTA and private sectors, approximately 120 participants engaged in a lively Q&A and opinion exchange.

In addition, a JPO exhibition booth was set up with display panels on the Japanese systems and the JPO’s latest initiatives. The booth also showcased genuine and counterfeit products of well-known Japanese brands, and broadcast awareness-raising videos that is working toward the eradication of counterfeit products in order to improve society. The JPO booth received a record total of more than 1,200 visitors, many of whom were interested in comparing genuine and counterfeit products. Many visitors were also eager to ask questions about Japanese t systems, as well as the JPO’s initiatives.

The JPO will continue to actively participate in international public-private sector exchange events, and will continue striving to create an environment that facilitates the appropriate protection and utilization of Japanese companies’ intellectual properties overseas.
